Ruth F. Weiner

Weiner's citation acknowledges her for the "development of user-friendly GUI version of RADTRAN for assessing risks of transporting spent fuel; outstanding work in RAM transportation risk assessment."

Her leadership as a teacher, textbook author and public speaker has inspired others in the profession.  She has designed courses in radwaste management and transportation and lectures on RAM transportation safety.  "I want to thank ANS for the recognition of my work, but in particular for recognizing RADTRAN, which is the result of 30 years' effort by many Sandians," stated Weiner who works at Sandia National Laboratories.

Weiner is the senior author of the only environmental engineering textbooks that include radioactive waste considerations.  She is an originator of the ANS Seaborg Congressional Science Fellowship and a member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste.
